Video game giant Ubisoft has opened a bigger studio at One-north, spread across 3 storeys, for its 450 employees, coinciding with its fifteenth year operating in Singapore.

The studio will concentrate on the development of titles in the Assassin’s Creed series, and also the naval action video game Skull And Bones – the first large-budget title led by Ubisoft Singapore – among many other projects.

The French game publisher will cast a wider net to capture and nurture talent locally by increasing its training programmes, which includes an introductory video game development course.

“The programme, which is in talks with Nanyang Polytechnic, will be designed to enable gaming enthusiasts with basic knowledge of the skills necessary in making games”, said Ubisoft Singapore human resource director Desiree Tan to The Straits Times at the studio’s launch on 16 November 2023.

The programme will be run over a few days and will provide “a more hands-on and experiential” learning environment for up to 25 people at a time, said Ms Tan.

Ubisoft will also collaborate with creative media institution 3dsense Media School to teach courses on visual effects, concept art and animation specific to Ubisoft’s workflow.

With new recruitment and training initiatives, and the revamped studio, Ubisoft deepens its roots locally as Singapore recently publicized its intent to be a regional hub for gaming, and tap into South-east Asia’s video gaming market, which has 270 million gamers and worth US$5 billion (S$6.8 billion).

Ubisoft’s new 3-floor premises at the Solaris building in One-north, just a short walk from Hill @ One North, will serve as a gaming production hub for the firm to build games and is equipped with studios for sound engineering, games testing and collaborative spaces for its staff.
