A new flyover that will permit more direct access between the Commonwealth and Holland areas and One-north is predicted to open in the first quarter of 2023, developer JTC Corporation informed The Straits Times.

The road, connecting Commonwealth Avenue and North Buona Vista Drive, has been under construction for many years, after a $21 million tender for it and the surrounding infrastructure was won by Chye Joo Construction in December 2017.

When it is open, it will help ease congestion within the science and technology hub, benefiting more than 50,000 people currently working in the neighbourhood, as well as residents of Hill @ One North.

For now, there is no direct throughfare between North Buona Vista Drive, which runs by The Metropolis and Biopolis and, and Commonwealth Avenue.

To get out of One-north towards central Singapore, drivers have to meander through tiny roads – often congested during peak periods – to reach North Buona Vista Road, where they then have to wait at 2 traffic junctions prior to exiting into Commonwealth Avenue or further to the Holland region.

The new flyover will permit more direct access while providing an alternative exit for drivers.

JTC has attempted to improve One-north’s connectivity through many projects.

In 2019, it opened a flyover linking Portsdown Avenue and the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) to relief traffic in and out of One-north. This provided an alternative route for drivers who would otherwise be held back by traffic at the North Buona Vista entrance to AYE.

A new road junction connecting to the flyover also gave faster access for drivers exiting the Singapore Science Park, providing them direct access to AYE (towards the city), rather than having them plough through Portsdown Road instead.

JTC has mentioned that it aims to make the area around Hill @ One North more car-lite, and has provided shuttle buses to core public transport nodes such as the One-north and Buona Vista MRT stations.
